Blog 1 - Attitudes

The three components of attitudes have played a positive role and have impacted my group experience. From a cognitive attitude, it was difficult in finding a topic for the multimedia project. As a group at first we wanted to do volunteer work, but after researching it was a lot harder than we thought it was going to be to find some place to volunteer. The problems that we kept encountering were that we are not allowed to video tape, we have to make a commitment of at least six months, or we simply couldn't get places to call us back. This impacted me positively because I was able to better get to know my group members based on the ideas they had on how to make the world a better place. From an affective attitude, I am frustrated with how the topic for this project is not very specific. How to make the world a better place is extremely broad. Many would think that volunteering is a great place to start, and it is, but when you are grouped with students who don't live in the same city, have limited hours to get together to do the volunteer work and filming of the project due to work, school, etc.; it becomes very difficult to perform the given task, especially with all the the problems our group has encountered. This has had a positive impact on me because it forced me to really think about other ways to help improve the world, not just by volunteering. From a behavioral attitude, I suggested to change our idea from volunteering to doing something that will be beneficial to everyone; not just the one specific organization that our group would be volunteering for. Because of this, our group has come up with the idea of 'saving energy'. This way we will be able to accommodate everyone's individual schedule when completing the multimedia project, and best of all we'll be making the world a better place!
